The first mentions of the town of Montemagno date back to 1150 AD, when Frederick I Barbarossa gifted the feud to the Bishop of Pistoia, together with the preexisting Pieve of Saint John the Baptist, located inside a fortified castle.
Famous people from the town were Conrad of Montemagno, who served in 1270 as ambassador of Pistoia at the court of Charles of Anjou, and two Bonaccorso of Montemagno: the Elder was a poet, an ambassador and a politician, the Younger was a lawyer and a law teacher in the XV century.
The Poggio Desto residence is a typical Tuscan farmhouse, duly restored according the the local tradition. It dates back to 1750, as testified by an inscription on an old chestnut beam of the attic.
The newer part of the farmhouse is very well integrated in the ancient architectural design, which is enriched by the beautiful green frame of cypresses and olive trees that encompass it and its four hectares of land.
